Day in the Life – In-House Digital Marketing Executive

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

This is a new series we are completing here at Imaginaire Digital, giving you an insight into our team’s work and what they get up to during their typical day. First up is Ryan, our In-House Digital Marketing Executive.

Marketing is an extremely popular career choice that gives people the opportunity to ‘get the best of both worlds’, in the sense that they can be creative and create campaigns, and they get to be analytical too! Marketing, especially digital marketing, involves looking at vast amounts of data. Something I really enjoy!

So what does a typical day look like for me?

06:00 to 07:00

Whilst I actually set my alarm for 5am so I have time to get the gym in before I set up for the day, this alarm is often useless and I end up waking up at 6 o’clock anyway, leaving me no time to get a workout in. So with that disappointment out of the way, I head downstairs to get my breakfast.

07:00 to 08:00

I like to use this hour to catch up on the shows I missed the night before, I am often busy during the evenings competing in 5-a-side football events and meeting up with friends, which means tend to miss a lot of the shows I like during the time they are on.

08:00 to 08:15

I have a very short commute to work which is great, because it means I can get the balance just right between leaving my house later in the morning and still arriving to work early! I often use this time to listen to different playlists.

08:15 to 08:30

I’ll use this short time to make myself a cup of tea (or coffee if I need the extra boost!) I also take a look at my emails and plan my work list for the day. We often receive emails later in the evenings from clients, journalists and marketers from other businesses during the night so my work list is often determined by what emails have come through the night before.

08:30 to 10:30

The first part of my mornings is normally spent carrying out competitor link building. This is a big strategy for us here at Imaginaire and it can yield some fantastic results when done properly! There is nothing better in my book than seeing your rankings jump above one of your competitors because of the competitor link building that has been done!

I am the In-House Digital Marketing Executive here at Imaginaire, which mean my time is spent (almost equally) working on the marketing strategies and campaigns for Imaginaire and one or two of their key clients. This is great for me as I get to be more involved with the campaigns I am working on than the typical digital marketer. I also get to focus on a lot of my time around the development of our websites, which is great because I can have a big impact from the marketing side of things.

10:30 to 12:30

I write a lot of content for the Imaginaire blog so this time is spent writing blog posts for the blog and completing outreach for previous blog posts. This is one of the best parts about my job as I get to both use the ‘analytical’ side of my brain in researching what topics are on-trend at the minute, as well as the creative side of my brain in actually writing the posts.

12:30 to 13:30

Lunch! There is a shop just a short walk away so my lunch is often made up of a sandwich, fizzy drink and a bag of crisps. Entertaining, I know! During my lunch break you can find me reading up on the latest sport news, or the main news if nothing is going on in the sports world. I will also spend my time reading the latest blog posts from companies such as HubSpot and Moz.

13:30 to 15:30

This time is often spent working on more outreach for both Imaginaire and our key clients. This could be in the form of PR outreach using data-backed blog posts, completing press requests to get us featured in blog posts or even guest posting on high authority websites.

15:30 to 17:00

The last bit of my day is spent researching up and coming SEO tactics that could potentially be used for our clients. SEO, and digital marketing as a whole, is constantly changing and tactics are expiring every day so researching new tactics is critical to every agency.

17:00 to 23:00

Once I get home from work, I tend to have my dinner around 6 o’clock and from there it’s either going out to play football or meet up with my friends. I tend to go to sleep around 11, all ready to do it again the next day!

One of the main things I love about my job is that SEO is always changing. There is even a chance that some of the tactics you are using today will not work in a year’s time! It is crucial to prepare for the future, as well as concentrate on  what you are doing in the present. It makes digital marketing, in my opinion, one of the best roles to be involved in!
